Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Ellie, a 15-year-old student, for a one-day work experience placement. Ellie spent her day with our Marketing and Events team, diving into the world of media monitoring, copywriting, and exploring the strategy behind our campaigns.
She gained a firsthand look at how we develop marketing strategies and how events play a key role in supporting both marketing and sales. Ellie also had the chance to explore how these strategies are designed to drive sales, whether through branding, creating engaging content, or providing the tools and support our sales team needs to succeed. Before she wrapped up her day, we sat down with Ellie to hear about her experience, what she learned, and what she found most interesting. Here's what she had to say… .
What did you work on during your work-experience placement?
“During my placement here, I learnt a lot about different marketing skills, like using social media platforms such as LinkedIn and how various types of events are planned and organised. I also got involved in competitor research, where I compared how other companies promote their businesses and thought about ways they could improve. One of the highlights was taking part in copywriting, where I wrote a sample post to inform customers about the website redesign. It was interesting to see how the wording could influence how people would react to the changes.”
Have you got any advice you could give to future work experience students?
"One piece of advice I’d give to future work experience students is not to be afraid to ask questions. Asking questions really helps you understand what you’re learning and makes the experience much more valuable. Everyone here is really friendly and always happy to help, so don’t feel shy! The whole point of work experience is to learn, and asking questions will help you get the most out of it.”
Why did you choose Bristow & Sutor for your work experience placement?
“I chose Bristow & Sutor for my work experience because I wanted to give myself the opportunity to learn about different types of office-based work and how they vary across different industries. I thought this would be a great way to explore what I might want to do in the future and get an insight into the business world.”
Have you gained any new skills or developed old skills further?
“I feel that my communication skills have definitely improved. I’ve had the chance to talk to lots of different people in the building, each with their own role, which helped me understand how important communication is in a workplace. I also feel like my teamwork skills have developed, as I got to work with different teams who made me feel like I was part of the group. It’s been a great experience to see how everyone works together to get things done.”
We’ve really enjoyed having Ellie with us during her work experience. It’s been fantastic to see her enthusiasm and the skills she’s developed over today. We wish her the best of luck as she continues to explore new career paths and hope she’s inspired to pursue a future in marketing!
